MAPPA Strike

Picture of Yuichiro Hayashi

MAPPA is a popular Japanese animation studio. Some of their popular works are Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and Chainsaw Man.  Currently however, their employees are on strike. MAPPA animators talk about their horrible working conditions. Apparently, MAPPA had a “crunch”, which means their employees were on tight schedules to animate. MAPPA has several projects which takes a toll on their animators. Animators at MAPPA work on those projects at the same time. Employees are overworked on short schedules while paid at minimum wage. MAPPA was given 2 years to animate season 2 of JJK, yet only 6 months were given to employees to complete season 2 of JJK. JJK episodes literally were animated the day before they were released. Many animators have already resigned. The JJK director of season one resigned and has started his own company called E&H Productions. Due to the MAPPA strike episodes are delayed on their current projects, and season 3 of JJK will probably be delayed.
