Wednesday morning marks the beginning of the jury’s deliberations in Donald Trump’s criminal trial. Should he be found guilty of falsifying business records, this would make him the first former president to be found guilty of a crime and potentially sentenced to prison, though legal experts think that may not happen. Based on reimbursement checks he sent to his former attorney Michael Cohen, who had paid adult film star Stormy Daniels $130,000 to conceal her claims of an affair with Trump, Trump is charged with 34 felonies with falsifying business records. He has entered a not guilty plea and refuted Daniels’ claims. The presidential campaign of the former president and convicted felon Donald Trump announced on Friday that $34.8 million had been raised by the campaign as a result of the jury’s unanimous decision to convict him of 34 felonies in New York. “President Trump and our campaign are immensely grateful from this outpouring of support from patriots across our country,” the Trump campaign stated in a statement. The people will deliver the real verdict on November 5th, and President Trump is fighting to defend our country.”
The trial’s judge, Juan Merchan, placed a gag order on Trump in March, preventing him from speaking in public about the attorneys, witnesses, and court employees. This was extended to include Merchan’s family as well as District Attorney Alvin Bragg when Trump disparaged the judge’s daughter due to her Democrat Party affiliation. The former president attacked the “nasty gag order” on Friday, claiming that it has forced him to pay thousands of dollars in fines and penalties and that he has been threatened with jail. there was a press conference held by the former president earlier today former President Donald Trump acknowledged that the gag order surrounding his hush money case could make his remarks regarding the recent verdict against him perilous, but he said he doesn’t care in the end because he’s “willing to do whatever it takes to save our country.” in less than twenty-four hours after a Manhattan jury found him guilty of thirty-four felony counts of fabricating company documents, he emerged on Friday morning from the notorious Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue. Trump is now the first sitting or former president to be found guilty following the verdict. The ruling is being appealed by Trump’s team. He continues to run for president despite his conviction. In his statement, Trump maintained his belief that the hush money case was a “scam” and a “rigged trial.” He expressed his fury that the court had ordered the defense’s expert witness to limit his evidence to specific topics and that the prosecution had “crucified” the one summary witness his side had presented, lawyer Robert Costello.
The former president is scheduled to cast his first ballot after a New York jury convicted him guilty of 34 felonies related to falsifying company documents on June 4. Prosecutors claimed that Trump orchestrated a hush-money payment to an adult film actress in an attempt to improperly influence the 2016 election. The outgoing president has refuted any misconduct.
Trump and President Joe Biden obtained the requisite number of delegates in March to be regarded as the presumed nominees of their respective parties. In the primary elections scheduled for Tuesday in Montana, New Jersey, and New Mexico, the Republican is predicted to win. Though polls continue to show a close race between Trump and Biden, early indications point to Trump’s conviction hurting his chances of regaining the White House in November.
