Netflix’s Wednesday

Brookelle Barnes, Editor/Reporter

The new Netflix show “Wednesday” was released on November 23rd, within just a week of it’s release it is the most viewed Netflix show with over 341 million hours worth in a singular week. This absolutely crushes the previous record for “Stranger Things” Season 4’s viewership within the first week by 6 million hours worth watched. With Tim Burton directing the show, main star Jenna Ortega performed beautifully throughout the series along with other main characters such as Christina Ricci, Luis Guzman, Emma Myers, Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, and Percy White. Jenna Ortega showed immense dedication to this role, going as far as not blinking throughout specific moments and cutting her own fringe in the series to portray a version of Wednesday that was constructed by Tim Burton. Jenna says in a “WIRED” interview on YouTube, “I’ve never played someone that has been portrayed before, especially so- flawlessly. It’s weird to do something that people have already created expectations and ideas of and still try to do something different that doesn’t stray too far from the character, but also puts her in a different world and atmosphere. There’s a lot of pressure I think.”

The portrayal of Wednesday differs from other versions pervious to the show, with a slightly different hairstyle, relationships, and meanings behind who Wednesday is and what she does throughout the series. I highly recommend you watch the series if you haven’t already seen it.
