Muana Loa eruption

Madison Wadleigh, Reporter

A few days ago, a volcano in Hawaii named “Mauna Loa” had erupted for the first time in nearly 40 years, the lava shooting into the air somewhere between 100 and 200 feet. Once the volcano had erupted it was soon followed by several large earthquakes, leading the Hawaii County Mayor, Mitch Roth, to declare a state of emergency for the area. The lava now has began flowing closer to a main roadway, and in fear of it reaching it the road may soon be cut off, especially with the lava now only being 3.6 miles away. Thankfully the volcano is in a fairly isolated area and shouldn’t affect any homes, however they’ve warned of possible air quality issues, including smog and volcanic smoke as well as sulfur dioxide. They’ve warned children. elderly and anyone with respiratory issues to reduce outdoor time or remain inside entirely.
