On May 4th, 2022. Sounders have become the first MLS team to win the CONCACAF Champions League. Beating Pumas UNAM 5-2 on aggregate . They’ll be participating in the club world cup, which dates are still unknown to this day.
Before undergoing its current format starting in 2008,There had been only 4 MLS teams to reach the finals prior to Seattle Sounders, which were Real Salt Lake in 2011 losing to Monterrey, CF Montreal in 2015 losing to Club America , Toronto FC in 2018 losing to Guadalajara in 2018, and Los Angeles FC in 2020 losing to UANL (who then became the first CONCACAF team to reach the finals, losing 1-0 against Bayern Munich). Seattle Sounders thus far are the only MLS team to win the CONCACAF Champions league, under its current format since 2008-09, therefore will be the first MLS side to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup. When it was first called the Champions cup and had a different format, only two MLS have won the tournament, D.C United who won 1-0 against Mexican team Toluca in 1998, LA Galaxy winning 3-2 against Honduras team Olimpia in 2000.
Sounders will be facing teams from Copa Libertadores (CONMEBOL), winner between UEFA Super Cup (champions league winner vs Europa league winners), CAF ( Confederation of African Football), AFC (Asian Football Confederation), OFC (Oceania Football Confederation) to determine who will win FIFA Club World Cup tournament.
