Boys Track & Field

Lakes boys track and field has been very impressive this season with many of our athletes competing in districts and state, the teams that qualified for state are our 4×4. When asked what his goals for this track season were, senior Preston Jones replied, “My goals for this season is to win state for the 4×400 meter relay.” He described his growth from freshman year to sophomore year as really improving. “From freshman year running a 56 to now running a 48, my growth has been good.”
Boys Soccer
The boys Soccer team is looking really good for Lakes. Lakes is looking to make the playoffs. The team faced off against Lincoln High School in a must win game to look at a chance to make the playoffs. The game ended in a tie scored 1-1. However, it is still possible the Lakes soccer team will be making the playoffs. When Senior Connor Breton was asked if he met any goals that he set this season, he responded, “Some goals I had during high school and club was to first reach out to coaches and get offers. That happened and I was luckily able to commit to a college.” Another goal of his was, “to compete against tough competition and be able to improve my skills on the ball and expand my knowledge of the game and my vision of the game. I was able to reach these goals not only by myself but with the help of my coaches, teammates, and my parents.”
Girls Tennis

Lakes Tennis had an away conference game against Gig Harbor High School; the girls lost 4 sets to 1. Lancers Ava Scarlett and Lyla Combs both went to state this year.
Boys Golf

Man, Lakes golf had a very intense golf match. A three team match up happened between Lakes High School, Timberline High School and Gig Harbor High School. Mikey Stroud paced the Lancers with a 43 including a chip in birdie on number 6. Tate Sherman for Lakes also carded a birdie on hole 8 and after a rough start finished the last four holes in one over par. Overall Lakes placed third with a score of 236, Timberline 219, and first place Gig Harbor with a score of 194. When asked what his goals were at the beginning of the season and if he made those goals, senior Mikey Stroud responded, “I wanted to make it to state.” Stroud did just that and placed 60th at state.”
Boys Baseball

Lakes had a couple of News Tribune athletes nominated to win athlete of the week. Sophomore Amar’e Ellis, and freshman Ivan Gonzalez. These two were voted for their outstanding performances for the week. Lakes played against Mount Tahoma High School and beat them with a shutout score of 11-0. When speaking to Ellis and about his season was going, Ellis replied, “I mean it was good for me and as a team we grew almost over the season even though our record was bad, we were a good team.” he went on to explain the goals he set, “Yeah, I made varsity, started on varsity, had a couple diving catches and got my arm stronger. I pitched good this season and had a pretty good batting average.”
Lastly, senior Aaron Miller was asked about his season and any goals he achieved. “It was alright,” responded Miller. “We had a young team, and we didn’t win as much as we would have wanted to but I got second team all-league in a league that had five teams go to state. I would have liked to have played better but am happy with how I did during the season.”
Fast Pitch

Lakes fast pitch had a very close game against Bellarmine Preparatory School, which resulted in a close game with a score of 10-8. Senior Quinn Stoud was awarded 2nd team All-League for Lakes. And Junior Savanna Newville got First Team All-League. When asked about her season and any goals she accomplished, Quinn Stoud responded “Oh jeez, we only won one game. We went 1-15. It was a brand-new team with two returning varsity players. I hit two home runs, threw eighty-eight strike outs, hit 10 RBI’s and a batting average of 0.375. I had the most strikeouts in the league.”
Girls Golf

One, two, three- swing! Our girls golf team is filled with a lot of first-time golfers, and they are really doing good for first timers. Our Lancers played against Capital High School at Oakbrook Golf Course. The score of the game was 245-381 (low score wins). Capital won the game. When asked how her season went and if she achieve any goals she set for herself, senior Addison Knight responded, “It was good. I made it to round one of districts, which I was happy about. My goal was to make it to district and have fun.”
Girls Track and Field

Recently Lakes High School competed against Steilacoom High School. Junior Nevaeh Nofoa-Masoe got first in shot put. Senior Samara Oliver, and Junior Kerra Tualamili’i placed in the track meet. Nofoa-Masue got first, Oliver second, and Tualamili’i 4th. When Tualamli’I was asked how her season went, Tualamli’i responded, “Track this year was good. My goal was to PR or at least hit my old PR so I can stay consistent. I was able to PR in one of my events and hit my PR in the other.” Our girls 4×4 team also made it to state.
