Every year, the Lakes High School Japanese classes host an event called Japan Fest.
In past years, we have seen karaoke, trivia, art contests, Japanese food and snacks; traditional Japanese games, and more!
What is Japan Fest?
Japanese teacher, Ben Shultis, says that Japan Fest is “an opportunity for Japanese students to share what they’ve learned about the Japanese culture and language with other people.”
According to Shultis, Japan Fest started over 20 years ago, originally held after school for students to share with family what they learned in Japanese. When it was changed to being held at lunch, Shultis reports that students became more interested in what they were doing.

Looking Forward
Is this year’s Japan fest, student Reagan Durant states that we can expect to see fun interactive booths.
Additionally, there are two art contests. The first is a class art contest, and the theme is the class’s favorite Japanese character. “Everybody will be contributing so that when it’s all put together it’s sort of like a collage.” states student Micah Bradley.
The second art contest is individual, and the theme is any animal native to Japan. Bradley states that there are coloring sheets for those who are less artistically inclined and also want to participate.
Make sure to come support these students and their hard work at Japan Fest during your lunch on March 27th in the main gym!
