Why We Should Have Waffle Wednesday
Wednesday often feels like the longest day of the week. It’s the stretch where the excitement of the weekend feels tantalizingly close but still far enough away to make the day drag on.
But what if there was a way to make Wednesdays something to look forward to, something fun and simple that can boost both school spirit and students’ moods right from the start of the day.
A tradition like Waffle Wednesday can work wonders, not only giving students a tasty treat to start the day but also getting students excited to go to school. It can encourage students to arrive on time, feel more energized, and be excited to participate in the day ahead.
Interviews with Harrison Preparatory; a Leader in Waffles at School
Harrison Preparatory has waffle Wednesday every other week. So, I interviewed both a past student of Harrison Preparatory and a current Harrison Preparatory Spanish teacher.
Ingrid Valdivia-Torres, a junior at Lakes High School, went to Harrison Preparatory for three years- 6th – 8th grade. When asked about Waffle Wednesday she replied, “Yes, I loved waffle Wednesday we had it every other week because there wasn’t always food for everyone.’’
When asked if she would want Waffle Wednesday to start at Lakes she said, “Yes, if they get good toppings, I think it would be good.”
Amy Rodriguez-Carter, the Spanish teacher at Harrison Preparatory, says that they hold it every Wednesday. When asked if teachers can get waffles as well, she said, “Teachers can purchase waffles for $3.45″.
Rodriguez was also asked if it is hard to get the materials for the waffles.
“We purchase waffle mix and add vanilla to the mix but that is through our ordering system. I am sure you could purchase at the chef’s store.” When asked if there are any pros and cons to it, she stated that the pros are that the students love it. The cons are that they must make them on their own and have to use their personal waffle makers because they are only provided one by the department and they need 230 every week so it can be very time-consuming.
Rodriguez added that Lakes does want to do waffle Wednesday, but the problem is the preparation for it and having someone stay after hours to prepare them and freeze them for when its needed.
Lake’s Students thoughts
When Ashley Stocker’s Business & Marketing classes were asked about their preference to Waffle Wednesday coming to Lakes, 54 people said yes and 45 people said no.
I also went around Lakes and the majority of people agreed and said that we should have waffles.
